The Four Gifts of Love® Facilitator Training Class

 

This is a Level Three (L3) class.  It is intended for couples who would like to be facilitators of the Four Gifts of Love® Class, using the corresponding companion videos, participant's guide, and facilitator's guide.  It's recommended that couples read the Summary of Basic Concepts before starting this class. 

Each lesson will require about 3-4 hours to complete. The lessons build onto each other—creating a strong knowledge base and helping couples integrate that knowledge into their daily lives.

Here’s a review of each building block:

Lesson 1

  • Introduces the Four Gifts of Love®
  • Identifies the Love Bank—and how couples make deposits into and avoid making withdrawal from each other’s accounts
  • Discusses the difference between romantic love and caring love
  • Identifies the effect of receiving the Four Gifts of Love in marriage
  • Discusses the importance of fulfilling promises to care, protect, and give time and honesty— putting the Four Gifts of Love into action
  • Identifies the effect of receiving the Four Gifts of Love in a relationship with God

Lesson 2

  • Introduces the concept of emotional needs in marriage
  • Reviews the ten most important emotional needs in marriage
  • Provides spouses with an opportunity to identify their own emotional needs
  • Discusses the importance of listening and responding in a thoughtful marital relationship and in a relationship with God

Lesson 3

  • Provides couples with an opportunity to share their emotional needs with each other
  • Provides couples with the opportunity to give the Gift of Care by meeting each other’s most important emotional needs
  • Reviews three areas of God’s will and provides an opportunity to incorporate these areas into daily lifestyle—giving God the Gift of Care

Lesson 4

  • Reviews how to give and receive the Gift of Protection
  • Identifies behaviors—called love busters—that destroy love
  • Provides couples with the opportunity to identify love busters in their relationship
  • Reviews the Policy of Joint Agreement 
  • Reviews four guidelines for negotiation to help couples find mutually agreeable solutions to problems or disagreements
  • Reviews the Gift of Protection with God and a Christian’s version of the Policy of Joint Agreement

Lesson 5

  • Provides couples with an opportunity to share the love busters in their relationship
  • Provides couples with an opportunity to give the Gift of Protection by avoiding love busters in their relationship
  • Presents the Gift of Honesty
  • Reviews the Five Parts of Honesty
  • Provides couples with an opportunity to practice honesty with each other
  • Reviews the Gift of Honesty with God

Lesson 6

  • Presents the Policy of Undivided Attention
  • Explains the need for couples to spend at least 15 hours a week for undivided attention with each other
  • Provides recommendations for how to schedule time for undivided attention
  • Provides couples with an opportunity to fine-tune their promise-fulfilling plans to give the Gift of Care and the Gift of Protection
  • Reviews the Marital Promise
  • Offers parting words of advice
  • Reviews the Promise to God
